I have a trailer (new to me) fitted with a Knott KF13 tow hitch.
The plastic release button on the handbrake leaver is broken. I've looked all over for a replacement button but it looks like I'll have to make one.
it looks like there is no spring behind the button to keep it out. Does anyone know if it needs one or does it rely on gravity to keep the lock against the opposing lock teeth? Thanks. S

You can't replace just the button independently but you can replace the handle grip as a replacement part. Have a look at the link below which identifies the part as being number 28 of the handbrake assembly. Click on the handle which shows the part at a cost £5.26 incl. VAT.

Thank for that tango55. Must have missed that! I'll call them to see if there's a spring there somewhere.

As you can purchase the handle as a complete part, if there is a spring behind the button it would have shown as an independent part on the exploded view but for the small cost involved it may be worth just replacing an old for new grip anyway.

I've been in contact with Knott in Germany and they want a fortune in courier fees for the grip and the button that's only a fiver. Plus, the delivery time apparently can take quite a long time.
I've also made phone calls to three major trailer companies but none of them can find a grip/button kit for the Knott KF13 hitch so it looks like I'll have to make a button myself!
