The female fitting on the hose needs chopping off, and the nozzle on the blue bayonet connector needs pushing inside the hose and securing with a jubilee-type clip.

Further question - can you remove the 500g screw gas canisters for future use or do they have to stay connected until empty?

Ha final two questions if anyone can help...

Does a longer hose (approx 120cm) reduce power or have any negative effect?

Does anyone know if you can use one canister at a time or does the dual fuel need two canisters attached even if one is empty?

Cheers

The hose lengthened (within reason) wouldnt affect the working pressure. 4 foot is nothing.

You should be able to remove a part canister as it should be self sealing.

Cant answer the 'dual fuel' canister usage thing. I suspect 'dual' is just able to load two. But they wouldnt both be 'on' together. But a camping/caravan accessories shop should tell you.
