I'm starting a new thread in case anyone hadn't seen the last one. I'm a product design student in my final year of university.
I've designed a coolbox with some pretty nifty features I think you should all check out. I would love to get some feedback on the idea in general, as well as finer design details.
There is a survey below with more information and image renders to give you more context. Write a litte or as much as you wish! Thank you
Snazzy looking bit of kit. What are the dimensions? (Sorry if they're there and I missed them.
Also 14.9kg is pretty hefty, add ice and food and drink and it's going to be quite an effort to hoick in and out of a car boot.
Thanks for the feedback Sean, great to hear it. And no you didn't miss the dimensions I just forgot to add them in, ive ammended this now. It is 60cm long, 52cm wide and 47cm tall.
I agree with you that it is on the heavier side, although when looking at competitiors, for example the wheeled 'YETI tundra haul', comes in at 14.5kg. So a very marginal increase considering the additional features my design brings. I'm sure with further CAD refinement it could shave another 1kg in the future.
The YETI tundra 45 without wheels, which holds near enough the same amount as mine, is 10.4kg to give you context. So overall I believe the weight penalty is not too large.
The good thing is you only have to lift it in and out of the car once, and the wheels can take care of the rest. You can also lift it by the handle when fully extended, making it easier on a second person helping due to the increased leverage.
Hope this clears some things up. I agree it's a drawback of the design, but I believe the utility it brings justifies the extra weight. Let me know if you agree with this statement or not in your opinion.
