In addition to multi-tools (there are more than one, and one of them is a Leatherman), I also carry steak knives, a cook's knife, a paring knife etc. in my van.

well I guess thats why Im unsure. I have food knives but I will be using them to prep food so I definatly have a genuine reasion to carry them. the multi tool is there incase i need it. sometimes I use it other times I dont.
I have it in a box with my camping gear and not on my person to try to demonstrate it is for use at the campsite. I may be worring for nothing as it is not likly to come to police attention. However I would like to know where I stand
Equipment for using while camping not a problem, using any camping equipment to harm others is.
So lassoing up people with guy ropes- NO
Barbecuing them - NO
Using your Porch / king pole as a lance = NO
Even if annoyed by other Campers

Google “Wikipedia knife legislation” and read the UK section. Some differences in Scottish law, but I’ve never been on a campsite searched by police, or one that’s been burgled by someone intent on doing harm with a stolen knife.
As everyone has said, stop worrying & enjoy your camping.
We're talking 'Law' here, and as much as the word of Law, there is interpretation and application of that Law by whatever powers that be, it simple is not black and white as to legal/illegal!
ANY sharp/bladed object in an inappropriate place, or used in an offensive/defensive manner falls foul of the Law!
Blades under 3 inches (75mm) on say a folding pocket knife or multi tool used as a tool rather than a weapon are mostly regarded as legitimate. Almost certainly not going to be welcome at say a football match, but a campsite it's difficult to argue it's wrong!
Just been on a Jury, case where chap was stopped by Police in his car in a routine motoring incident, found to have a folded (bladed) multi-tool in the car (not on his person), was charged with having a 'blade in a public place without good reason', Jury found innocent as legitimate reason given for tool being in his car. All a matter of interpretation of the Law, Police felt it was illegitimate and pressed charges, Jury felt it was legitimate tool there for a good reason and no suggestion intended as a weapon!
That's the way it is, ANY sharp/pointed object puts you at risk, if that's the way Police etc. want to view it. A tent peg could put you in court if you take the word of Law too literally!
I think the critical thing is not to be in an inappropriate place with it or use it in an inappropriate manner.
As has been said above, just be sensible.
I have a Gerber multi tool that has locking blades but are over the legal length, but i only use it on site and dont cary it in public.
How times have changed ! when i was very young (9 or 10) my dad got me a 6 inch sheath knife for use as a scout. I still have it now, rosewood handle and a hand stiched leather sheath.
If i was to leave the house now with it on my belt id probably end up in a lot of trouble !!
