When I was a tenter, my EHU kit was 15m in a reel, and I carried a 25m extension cable in case I need it.
I had only needed to use the extension cable once between 2009 to 2018 when I pitched on the other side of a hedge where there was not EHU point.
The site warden actively encouraged me to use the extension cable for the joint to be rested on top of the hedge and not on the ground to avoid submerging the joint in water.
One can get one of these to provide added protection from the elements:
The main point to remember when using an extension cable is to keep the junction elevated and do not allow it to submerge in water.
