Looking for advice if possible. I've bought a small gas bbq for the campervan. The regulator is for 5kg+ calor gas bottles. However already have a gas hob in the van which runs on a 2.75kg campingaz bottle.
We are going to France soon and don't want to carry 2 different bottles, one for the bbq and 1 for the gas hob. Instead, I was hoping to be able to use the same 2.75kg that's already in the van for both.
We will never need to use the hob and the bbq at the same time, it will always be either or. So if the gas bottle is connected to the hob, I would like to be able to switch it relatively quickly to the gas bbq and vice versa.
Is this just a matter of leaving the regulator connected (off position) and just switching the hose each time using jubilee clips, or am I missing something?
No reason why you can't swap appliances, but an easier way than faffing with removing hoses and jubilee clips (which will cause wear and potential leaks on the hose) is to fit a quick release coupling on the outlet hose of the regulator! Then you just unplug one appliance and plug the other one in. One provisos, ENSURE the quick release coupling is valved, the type that shuts off the gas when disconnected (you could just turn off gas at regulator, but always risk you'll forget before disconnecting!).
One thought, BBQs can be quite heavy consumers of gas, your Campingaz 907 may not last very long! Somewhere on the BBQ or in the paperwork should be it's gas consumption in g/h (grams per hour), divide 2750 (the gas capacity in grams of a 907 cylinder) by the g/h figure and you'll get an idea of how long the cylinder should last on the BBQ.
Of course, with the exception of Campingaz, UK gas cylinders cannot be exchanged/refilled in France!
I would definitely go down the external barbecue point, saves a lot of faff in the long run.
Our 2nd moho came with one, we found it so useful we had one fitted to our next two moho's. Didn't need one fitted to the current moho as it's standard equipment.

This is the type, you'll either need to buy two to get the appliance end stem for 2 appliances or if lucky one coupling and two stems: https://www.gasproducts.co.uk/8mm-quick-release-gas-hose-coupling.html Available from many other outlets.
These are brilliant. Got about three sets as ive bought numerous gas bottles and regulators off FB half/full cheap. So i can swap at an instant if one runs out. Also, ive now taken to leaving my bbq bottle fixed inside the tail of the truck, with an extended hose to the camping bbq joined by one of these.

Thank you for the response... i didn't know about the quick release coupling mechanism... i have ordered a couple. Thanks again 👍
Just a point on fitting these. Pour hot water on the hose just prior to inserting the fitting. And you want the female fitting on the bottle end. Put a bit of fairy liquid on the end as well - ideally it would be silicon grease. But their website actually mentioned FL where i bought them, for the tiny amount required.

I came across them years ago when I did a lot more tent camping and had a bit of a mix 'n' match setup running off a single cylinder, but didn't really want to turn the gas fridge off whilst changing from cooker to BBQ etc. and be faffing with swapping hoses and fitting Jubilee clips each time. The outlet from regulator went to a 'Y' piece, the fridge was on one outlet and 'whatever' was on the other, also had the side benefit of coupling stem can rotate, so no more annoying twisty corkscrewed hoses.
Of course the caravan has a proper BBQ point fitted (as standard), which TBH has to be the best option if you have a cylinder normally installed in a vehicle. They probably are classed as a fixed installation and the pedants would insist can only be fitted by a qualified gas engineer if you were having a new one installed, which unless you were knowledgeable and competent I probably wouldn't argue against too much, one way or another it HAS to be gas safe, especially as internal to the vehicle. But a BBQ gas outlet at £45-£60 plus the gas pipe and necessary union fittings nudging it towards £60-£80 overall in parts alone makes it a much more expensive option! ... and you need to cut the appropriate hole in the vehicle to mount it!
