Not the most rock n roll post ever but can anyone advise on chemicals for a Fiamma portable toilet please? I've read that the green fluid is better environmentally but does it work as well?
Also, is it a case of the more expensive ones being better?
No, the more expensive ones are not necessarily better, as is the case with many things. We normally use the ones from Aldi, but it is really more a case of personal preference. The ones we currently use seem fine, and no better or worse than others we have tried. We have used the green fluid, and the same thing applies.
We you green ones and yes they work and are just fine. We use Fenwicks one and have happy with the results. Advantage of the green ones is you only need one lot of chemicals to take with you as they work in the top and bottom.
Sherlock, you don’t have to use anything at all… There are 2 chemicals, unless your toilet flushes directly from the fresh water tank. If you have a reservoir to fill, it’s really just a fresh smell & cleaning the bowl that you’re looking for.
What you put in the cassette after you’ve emptied it helps makes the process of emptying bearable: it dissolves solids & neutralises the look & smell of the liquids. For that, I’d go full on commercial chemical, but that’s because I’m squeamish.
But be aware that rural sites with septic tanks rather than a sewer will not allow blue additive. Emptying a septic tank if its good bacteria have been killed by the wrong toilet fluid is expensive. So we buy green not blue.
Elsan Organic for us, keeps a sites septic tanks right.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We started with Thetford stuff but back then the pink stuff caused black bits to come out in the flush water so opted for the Aldi or Blue Diamond stuff which worked perfectly fine.
However, after reading about Aldi / Lidl bio clothes washing liquid being used by people on here I decided to try it out. So far it has been really great and much cheaper, we also use a little of the Fabulosa floral disinfectant stuff in the flush water and if smells better than the pink. I empty it every secomnd day and there is no bad smell plus the inside of the cassette has never been cleaner.
Dave.

My favourite is Nature Calls, though at the moment using the Maypole organic. I did put some in the top tank, but started getting black bits. Went onto Zoflora; but ran out in France and started using laundry disinfectant, which seemed OK and also perfumed the bathroom area nicely. Like Dave, now on Fabulosa.
Just as a side comment some people put normal loo roll in. We dont do that - we either bag it and bin it or use the dedicated stuff that breaks down better - otherwise when emptying you can get sploshing.

Bag (budget nappy sacks as used by the dog) & bin. That dedicated paper is as much use as a chocolate fireguard: you need twice as much.
