I'm talking about awnings

There are no instructions with my Swift Archway Lowick (1997), but I have found a standard Swift manual that seems to hold a lot of information for the type of caravan I have.

The manual is here:
https://www.bessacarr-owners-club.org/info-centre/manuals/caravan/9830006-Caravan-Owners-Hbook-2000.pdf

It tells me that to avoid puncturing the outer skin of
the caravan wall, it is recommended that awning poles are fixed to your caravan using load spreading eyelet pads or rubber sucker pads

Does anyone have any experience with the older style awnings? And do you recommend sucker pads or eyelet pads?

Thanks
Tanya

My caravan and awning are both old. (see my profile pictures) My awning has built-in pads and hook-eyes which the 3 awning roof poles hook into. They are the reason we need two people to put up the awning roof as these catch on things like the awning light when pulling the awning through the awning channel. When using these pads and hook-eyes I have never had any damage to the caravan sides even in strong winds. Are you sure your awning doesn't come with the same pads and hook-eyes? I would have thought that most did.

Thanks Colin. I've not had the awning out of the bag yet, just a quick look inside. I can't put it up just yet because there is a big tree in the way. Hopefully, everything is there. I wasn't aware they were built in. :)

Hi Tina, yes, it's the original one. I hope all the eyes and pads will be in there. I wasn't aware that it came with them given what the manual said. :)

It seems likely that your caravan is a White Arches dealer special, based on a Swift Classic Silhouette, dealer specials are based on a standard model caravan with extras fitted, this might help in your search for a handbook, it should have been CRIS registered so did you get the CRIS paperwork with it?

Thanks Tina, I did see this info on a thread somewhere but the search for the actual manual has been unsuccessful but the manual I posted in the first post seems to have most info I need. It was registered with CRIS, it has a very old worn sticker on the window. No paperwork. I've registered it again and waiting to hear back from the CRIS.
