I've just bought a flushable loo and am somewhat confused about chemicals as never had one before. I found elsewhere on here people suggested using biological washing liquid, 2 xapfuls in waste tank and one in flush tank. Does anyone use this method? Will only be used for night time wees. Any advice appreciated.

Why not use the correct chemicals for the job? No pun intended!
You have no idea what effect biologist washing liquid has on septic tanks.
OK, they may be a few pence dearer but if you buy the green version at least you know you won't be harming the delicate goings on in the campsite sewage system.

I asked the question because I have absolutely no idea about septic tanks or using any kind of portable toilet as I've never used one before. I see lots if 'camping hacks' that people use and I had just seen on another post on here about the washing liquid. Was nothing to do with saving money, I'd actually read the smell was nicer than some of the chemicals and also not harmful.
So thanks for the lecture, I'll consider myself told!

Get some Elsan Organic, next to no smell, and safe in septic tanks.

The flush stuff is to clean the bowl & smell fresh. You could use nothing at all, I guess; it’s usually pink & I use a half dose (plus a slug of Dettol) as it smells too bubblegummy.
The reservoir stuff (green preferable to blue) is to break down what’s been put in the loo (plus the flush) - hence a more chemical requirement & the need to be kind to septic tanks on rural sites away from a mains sewer, which have “good bacteria” that are killed off by heavy duty chemicals.
If your toilet fairy only allows liquids, as ours does, and you bin the toilet paper like you do in old Spanish hotels (maybe use nappy disposal bags), there’s less for the chemicals to do. And emptying the cassette isn’t as gross as it could be. (Don’t anyone say they enjoy this job. It’s why we don’t go off grid except in emergencies.)

Thank you, yes it will be number ones only and only for myself at night (at that age!) so won't be any solids in there and minimal use to be honest.

Get yourself some Fenwicks top and tail We use it and are more than happy with results. No chemical smell , environmentally friendly and you only need one bottle to cover both tanks.

Same as Elsan Organic(link posted above), you only need one bottle.

I'm another one who can't understand the reluctance to use the 'correct' fluids, for the amount you use the cost is insignificant and the 'savings' with washing liquids, laundry conditioners etc. so marginal, is the risk to your toilet AND the disposal system really worth it!

One factor that so many people seem to overlook is that the proper fluids have biocidal properties and render the contents of your waste tank 'safe', washing liquids etc. don't. OK, if only using for No 1's, not much risk in the first place, but for those of us that 'fully' use our toilets, I'd rather have the dribbles, splashes and aerosols generated when emptying tank biologically safe for me and others, and would hope others are equally considerate!

As others have said, get a concentrated fluid that does both tanks, only one small(er) bottle to carry. I use Elsan SuperKem which is Septic tank friendly. A little bit of fluid in the top/flush tank pretty much stops staining of the bowl/flap and significantly reduces the need to clean, and keeps it fresh smelling. AVOID the dedicated PINK flush tank fluid especially Thetford's, it tends to grow unsightly black algae which can also block the flush system!

I went to a site last week empty my toilet cassette and the previous guy came out and what a stink of urine I think that they couldn't have used any chemical in theirs. I could have done with a clothes peg at the time.Disgusting
