Hi
I have a small campervan Toyota Hiace and looking to place fire extinguishers in it.
I have Gas stove and electrics in the van, my other vehicles had as default dry powder, but I have heard about water mist extinguishers, are they any good?
I wouldn't fancy using any kind of water mist on an electrical fire as it's a well known fact that water and electric don't mix. The best place for advice is a caravan accessory shop where they sell the right extinguishers for outdoor leisure applications.
Watermist extinguishers are perfectly safe on electrical fires and have the advantage that they don't leave a residue that can damage electrical components, unlike ABC.

Get everyone out then chuck a fire blanket on it and call the fire brigade!
It should be covered by insurance so why on earth would you risk getting trapped by it?
Fire in LV's can spread rapidly and be all consuming!

If you have an electrical fire and the RCD has not tripped then there is something seriously wrong with the system. We have a water mist extinguisher in our caravan and hope never to use it.

Good post Iank01 because this link explains in detail about the fine spray water mist which is what was needed for this particular topic so I would be inclined now (from my previos post) to purchase this particular fire extinguisher for the caravan.
You are most likely to get a kitchen fat fire in the camping part of your camper van, and a petrol/electric fire in the van part. A good quality dry powder fire extinguisher would cope with all of this.
Letting off a dry powder fire extinguisher is expensive and makes an awful mess, a fire blanket can be repacked and reused and puts out pan fires without a mess.
Many thanks for the replies, certainly stuff to consider. Tho most probably be an electrical or frying pan fire if ever going to occur (hopefully it never will), in time.

An RCD is only designed to trip on an earth fault, if there is a short circuit between live and neutral an MCB is designed to clear the fault but it could still cause a fire.
