Hi All,

Have just purchased a second hand caravan (Lunar Quasar 462) that has a roof mounted aerial and Vision Plus VP1 amplifier in a cupboard. We went away for a weekend locally and all of the channels tuned in perfectly. Now in Devon, tuned in ok but suddenly said no signal and wouldn't pick anything up. Tried new COAX and plugged directly into amplifier but still nothing.

Any ideas?

You will need to retune the tv if you’ve travelled out of your local area. Each time you travel any distance this will be the case. Download a free app called Antenna Aligner which will show you which to transmitters serve the site you’re on and where to point the antenna - ignore the last bit if it’s one of those round ones you’ve got.

Amplifier should have a red led on it to show its powered up. If that’s not on when the 12v is then check the fuse. If all cables and tv worked before there’s no reason why they won’t now. It will be something simple.

Good luck

Dave

We use a signal strength meter to check the aerial is turned in the direction to get the maximum signal. Cheap enough on Amazon/ebay

As you went away locally, the TV was obviously tuned into the same reception as your TV at home. When you travel any distance away from home you always have to retune the TV to the area where you are pitched. If you have a roof mounted saucer type round dish antenna aerial then it should pick up the reception automatically so you don't need an Antenna Aligner as mentioned above. You only need one of those if you have the roof mounted aerial that swivels round 360 degrees by turning a handle directly below the aerial inside a cupboard. The Antenna Aligner will then be needed to get the aerial pointing in the right direction.

Thanks to those that have replied so far but as per my post, I tuned the TV (Actually performed a first time installation) and initially got channels when we got to Devon so tuning is not the issue. The no signal issue happened suddenly and maintais with a few different COAX cables.

We have found TV reception to be very patchy in parts of Devon and Cornwall. It might be that you are just not within a good enough range of the transmitter to maintain a good signal. There might be a weak signal that allowed you to tune initially but then dropped out. Have you asked around the site to see if anyone else has a signal?

Check the amplifier is on, ours has a little switch on top. We also had one fail, it was replaced under warranty.
It might be a fault with the tv itself.Could you ask a other vanner to try it in their van?
