I've got one very similar but a Coleman brand. To access the battery compartment on mine, the whole bottom base screws off anticlockwise whereby you can see that there are four locations to insert 4 x HP2 batteries.

EDIT:

It could be a rechargeable lantern as it looks like there is a round blanking plug further up the base. Have you tried to open it up to see if there is a small socket behind?
If there is then you will need the charging cable for it.

So what's the conclusion then, is the lantern a battery operated one or a rechargeable type?
I wait in anticipation for a reply as to which of the two it is as a reply could be quite useful for anyone else that has an identical lantern and needs to know.

Hi dear, you are correct. There is a charging hole. Iopened the base if is empty, but shall acrew it all. Your mention of 4 x HP2 batteries, gives an indication of the charging cable power.
Once again thank you,.
I shall post my finding, which is hopfully happy 😋
My trouble, I like old stuff 😃

If there is a charging point, the batteries could well be of the rechargebale type if not permanently fixed into the lantern itself.
Thanks for your reply anyway and appreciate the fact that you like vintage items which I would assume that there is some antique value especially if there aren't many around.
