Hi
I have a Cadac deluxe QR, I never got around to using it yet.
In my Hiace campervan, the main bottle (camping Gaz 907), which powers the gas hob inside, is strapped in lower cupboard, not easy to keep taking in & out.
The simple solution would be to get a separate camping bottle then keep it outside, for the duration of the stay.
Though, I was wondering is there a way to keep additional bottle in the cupboard & connect a long hose, which could be run outside (ie 3m), that could be quick released, instead of taking the additional bottle in & out?
Check the cadac manual but one site states Flexible gas hose length should be kept to a minimum for your own safety. A maximum of 3 metres can be sold in a continuous length. If using the hose with a Cadac BBQ, their manual states that you must not use a length greater than 1.5m.
Think it's mostly one of those 'elf and safety' things! Long hoses are regarded as a trip hazard AND at a greater risk of potential damage themselves.
Not just a case of personal injury tripping on the hose, but risk of flaming cooker/BBQ being toppled and setting fire to surrounding things, falling hot pan contents burning people etc. It gets worse, if using a standalone cylinder, and that gets tipped over you will get liquid 'gas' forced into the burners and a large fireball erupting.
You are also 'supposed' to examine flexible hoses for damage and deterioration before EACH use, obviously, the more hose the greater the chance of damage occurring as more hose will contact more things! Who actually bothers to check the hose in any detail if at all, so the more hose the greater the likelihood of undetected damage, leaks, fires etc.!
The thinking behind the measures is not totally without merit, but it is often impracticable.
At extremes, the inevitable flow volume drop on very long hoses may impact burner performance, but a few metres isn't going to make one iota of difference.
Always tickles me, one lot of instructions tells you to keep hose impracticably short, but then another instruction says do not operate cooker/BBQ within close proximity to other objects! I can't operate a BBQ from the factory fitted gas point on my van and satisfy BOTH instructions! Reminds me of the length of hose factory fitted to a Campingaz stove I have, barely long enough to place the stove on a standard camping cooker stand without raising the gas cylinder off the ground or having too tight bends in the pipe!
I'd happily use close to 3m of hose, BUT route it in such a way that it wouldn't be a trip hazard, by obstructing path between BBQ and gas point.
Thanks for the replies
On my old VW T25, I had LPG installed along with a underslung LPG leisure tank. I done away with bottles, just filled up at every LPG station.
My Hiace is LPG, have considered the additional LPG leisure tank, (save me cabin space), tho I think the hiace under carriage is lower than the T25 (though my T25, was 40mm lowered). I suppose have to work the maths!
