Hi everyone this is my first post here so thanks for your time!
I recently bought a burner that screws onto the top of the classic EN417 mount of a butane gas tank you can purchase in-store. What I have been investigating is whether I can combine this with my Trangia to avoid having to buy another burner just for this (I am a student so my budget is too tight for this).
I have bought a hose extender off eBay that provides an EN417 attachment at the canister end and the other end is a 6mm connector. I was wondering if anyone out there knows of an adapter that takes a 6mm connector to the base of a standard EN417 male burner connection.
The links to my burner and the extension hose I bought are below :)
I think you'll struggle to bodge that burner into a Trangia. It looks to me as though the controls will be in the wrong place for one thing.
Assuming that your Trangia has a spirit burner why not just use that with it and use the gas burner as intended? You can use your Trangia pans on the gas burner.
Your burner would need a clip to fit which is not sold separately. The only adapter is from Edelrid and is specifically for their hexon stove.
There are aftermarket stove inserts but they are too powerful for the trangia. I melted an upper windshield on my 27. Proper gas inserts supplied by trangia are throttled back to reduce the "blowtorch effect".
The hose you bought is a replacement for remote canister stoves. You will not be able to bodge it to fit your stove. There are adapter's to allow remote canister use.
That won't allow you to use it with the trangia though and you will be throwing money at something that isn't really practical.
As Sean says, use the trangia pans on your gas stove or the alcohol burner in your trangia. Bio ethanol and meths is working out cheaper than gas these days.
