I am currently in Vancouver and came across a mini stove that uses butane gas canisters, cute as a button, and cheap compared with prices I have seen on Amazon UK.

I vaguely remember about the recommendation to spend more to purchase canisters with the added safety feature of a release valve to minimise the risk of explosion etc...

So far I can find the following safety feature being mentioned via Google:
- Counterlink Release Vent (CRV)
- Rim Vent Release (RVR)
- Temperature Sensing Vent (TSV)

Amazon UK sells canisters with RVR, and I can find stockists of canisters with CRV.

Hence this post to request for help for clarification and advice before I press the buy button.

I can understand a butane or propane tank permanently mounted outside a house needing vents. In a forest fire pressure will build up in the tank, the vent will release gas that will burn harmlessly in the fire.
In a small hiking gas stove in a forest fire the gas can will explode but with minimal damage in an already burning area. If this gas can were to heat up in "hot weather" inside a car or building and cause a fire.
I'm not sure a gas can vent would be a safety advantage in all circumstances.

As a retired design engineer I am sure gas canisters will be designed with a safety factor to cater for many times the maximum pressure likely to be encountered.

Those videos are advertisements by the company selling the canisters, not backed up by anyone with experience of exploding canisters.

During around 60 years of using gas canisters the only accidents that I have heard of were caused by leaking connections between the canister and the stove, never a burst canister.
