Iv got a Erde with side extensions and a abs lid with roof racks. With all my camping gear in the trailer would putting two bikes on the racks be dangerous and to tall? Anyone else done this with no issues? Thank you
I had three bikes on the abs lid with erde bars.
Fitted by Halfords
All worked very well till we were going up a steepish hill in the Rhone Alps ... the weld holding the tipping pin connector broke ...
The body of the trailer tilted ... scrapped along the road for a short distance till I stopped.
Very little damage, except minor bending of the rear plate section (that had the reg plate on it.
I used a ratchet strap to bind the trailer body back to the T bar ... and that worked fine for the remaining three weeks of holidays.
When I got back to UK ... took the trailer to Halfords for a free repair ... told them what happened ...
They said they wouldn't repair it because the trailer was not designed to carry three bikes ...
I replied: Ummm ... you fitted the three bike carrier bars ..
They carried out a free repair ... but I never loaded three bikes again ... I did carry two for a while ... but shortly after we switched to a Pennine FC ...
Maybe check with Halfords?
Did yours have to side extensions to? I think it would be bottom heavy as my tent weighs 50kg then Iv got the beds tables cooking equipment etc. then saying that you see bikes up straight on the car roofs so it wouldn’t be as highly as that. Only one way to find out I suppose haha.
Ah ... interesting ... at one stage I had a car roof box on my bars, making it a comparable height to yours ... had a bike mounted on each side via other bars I fixed on.
