Hi fellow campers, as previous motorhome owners of 20+ years, we enjoyed the 'outdoor life' but also retained the use of a TV for the evenings. We have used a TV aerial either pole mounted off the back of the camper or built in to the roof on a later model.
I know it likely goes in the face of proper tent camping but now that we are getting it to our new 'tenting regime' I wondered how we could bring the TV back into the fold?
We do have a satellite dish on a tripod which we used to use, but this is quite bulky.
I have some ideas, but I wondered whether anyone had cracked this little luxury for their tent holidays.
There are now dozens of small indoor TV aerials, including very thin plastic ones no larger than an A4 piece of paper. My daughter had one for her bedroom TV which worked very well.
Success of an aerial depends on quality of the signal at the location, which in remote campsites may not be as good as urban areas.
Streaming or downloading programmes to a tablet is the modern way.
Our problem is related, but you might find something similar: there are very few small TVs around now. We wanted one that fitted into the overhead locker & ended up getting one from a charity shop.
You might already have a giant screen with surround-sound speakers for your tent…. in which case, do remember canvas is completely un-soundproof, so midnight horror movies might not be welcomed by your neighbours.
Thank you for humouring my request, we have a reasonably small TV in our kitchen at home which used to tag along as our motorhome TV, I was proposing to use it again. It has both terrestrial and satellite antenna inputs.
I remember she we first started out in our motorhome we bought a low cost TV aerial from Argos which didn’t work at all well, encouraged by Bernie47s response I shall have another look for a more modern antenna
So no one advocates a caravan aerial on a sectional post held up by guy ropes/lines? :0)
