Thanks for your input..... any more info on how long you have been using the ultimate gilesme....and is there any sign that its better....
its only a small increase in cost for the good stuff...but if it keeps your stove burning hotter...cleaner and more enviromentally friendly.... they can only be good things......the cleaner is the bit I like as there is an additive in the fuel that keeps soot and carbon deposits from forming and using it supposedly can even help clean out workings that have been burning regular fuel...
have tried both sorts of unleaded, but normally run the car and the coleman on shell optimax, ultima: with regards to storing your fuel,if you can store in a dark place it will greatly increase longevity: unleaded fuel deteriates with light, even through a "fuel can",,,old fuel stored with light,,,will definately clog your coleman, other than that keep it clean and enjoy
I wouldn't try with a spark type lighter ....... could flare up!!
I use one of those long gas igniter things that run on butane ......
As for the duel fuel cooker ............. fantastic!! Went away a few weeks ago and it cost me £1.50 for 3 days cooking! The only problem I had was relighting it when it's still hot as the vapour evaporates too quickly!
I have a camping gaz stove as a back up or just for doing a quick boil.

As I have had to replace my generator, admittedly after 5ish years of heavy use without this pearl of wisdom

What was wrong with your generator?
Mine had started leaking fuel from behind the control knob and I emailed Coleman in the states to ask if it was serviceable. They told me that the graphite packer had collapsed inside the generator and sent me new one by air mail (for free). I took the generator apart last night and it was full of black gunk from the old packer, I cleaned it up and fitted the new one and now it works like new again.
Tip top piece of kit and excellent customer service.

I have seen a lot of talk on not using the unleaded fuel because of carbon deposits and such... and how Colemans fuel is better refined and cleaner....Have any of the coleman users out there tryed using something like BP ultimate which is a more highly refined unleaded fuel....which burns cleaner and more enviromentally friendly while also have 75% better cleaning efficiancy....to me this sounds a lot like what coleman are selling for 4.99 for 500ml....
Before buying a coleman I was wondering if anyone had thought about it or tried it..

Although BP Ultimate is more highly refined than ordinary unleaded it is quite different to Coleman Fuel. Unleaded Petrol is permitted to have much higher levels of aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene than are present in Coleman Fuel.
These substances aren't good for your health. The risk itself should be relatively low as the stoves are used for relatively short times and outdoors. Still I would guess that Coleman Fuel would be much more popular if it wasn't so expensive.
I found an alternative called Aspen 4T. It's environmental petrol from Sweden. Until recently you coudn't get it in the UK (except for 2-stroke). It is now being imported by Anglo American Oil. Details at http://www.aspen.se/Templates/standard2.asp?PN=849343
I've tried this in my Coleman Dual Fuel and it burns as well as Coleman fuel or unleaded petrol. It cost me just under £12 for 5 litres. It has virtually no benzene or sulphur and low levels of aromatic hydrocarbons. It has much better storage properties than regular fuel and won't clog your generator.
Obviously it's more expensive than BP Ultimate but no where near the price of Coleman Fuel!
I bought mine on Ebay several years ago and run it on Shell Optimax like my car and have never had any problems with it, friends who see it for the first time are a bit wary but then agree that it is a quality product just like the dual fuel lamps.
Does anyone know if there is a service kit you can buy as I think it's probably about time I gave the whole thing a good service, are there instructions available anywhere?
I've run my Coleman double burner for over two years on unleaded petrol from whichever petrol station happens to be the nearest. Absolutely no problems.
Just remember to lift the little lever up and open up the valve fully for a minute when you first light it. This appears to burn off any carbon deposits in the generator... well it's worked for me anyway.
