How safe is it?

Depends on the type of cylinder. We bought one in 2003 on the day when the highest temp was recorded in the UK and the guy who sold it to us said not to open it until the day had cooled down. He was moving the aroun as he was worried about the heat.

I've got a stupidly big for camping one so should be ok? (its the almost up to your knee blue one I have)

I have put the small ones on bonfires it takes a long time before they explode

So the consensus is its safe

Have done this for years - cylinder is a lot stronger than your fuel tank.
