I have a mains hook up cable with the blue connector to hook up on site.It has a circuit breaker and 3 13amp socket the same as in the Towsure catalogue M195.The test button has stopped working ie if you press it nothing happens?I assume the trip should go cut off the power to anything plugged in.On investigation(opened it up)the red neon indicator mounted on the outside was wired to earth and the neutral supply coming into the box(the neon wasn't lit up)I have wired it to the brown live in put and it's now lit up but the test switch still doesn't work doesn't work. Can any one tell me if they have one of these,is their neon lit all the time or does it only come on when the trip has been activated.Has anyone else had similar problems?I have been trying to buy a new twin pole RCD unit but the one I have seen are £30- £40 and the one fitted is made by LRS who I can't find a wecb site for?Any ideas. Thanks

Hi

The neon WAS wired to show you if the polarity was reversed, ie if live had of come in via the neutral line the ight would show to warn you.

Find your nearest electrical TRADE counter, go armed with pound notes and you will get a replacement without to much trouble ( I assume its in a standard din rail?, if you dont understand that take the unit in  wih you)

Mandy thats not a problem with the unit, its reversed polarity, that means that the live and neutral are the wrong way round.

Ok I have done some more research and the neon should be wired to the blue neutral input wire and only come on when there is a problem. So that is solved thanks. If I could get a new RCD part that has a test switch that works that would been great.I would like to pay no more than £20.It is fitted to a standard rail I think.Thnaks for the help it's ben doing my head in allday!I even drove 10 miles tonight to Merry Hill Maplin to buy a new neon because I thought the neon was bust! You live and learn!!

Hi
Before you write off the RCD are you operating the test button with power applied?
The RCD will NOT trip unless there is power to it!
If indeed it is cream crackered then try the local electrical wholesalers. I'm not sure what current rating yours is, probably 25Amp/30mA trip. Should cost about £30 with VAT.
As regards the neon, it sounds like it SHOULD be wired between Neutral and Earth so that it lights on reverse polarity. There is no reason why you can not wire it between Live and Earth to indicate CORRECT polarity, so long as YOU know what the lit neon means!
Happy Camping

Ok sorted.Bought new replacement trip part thet sits next to the on off switches as test button wouldn't work with power on.New part cost £26 inc vat.I now understand that the neon is wired to earth and neutral and lights up if you connect upto a site with reverse polarity(probably when abroad)Thanks for help
