Hi We have decided to buy a Combicool last minute, after listening to how good they are on here. The cheapest we can find is Towsure for £129.99 plus £9.95 for 48hr delivery(were going a week tomorrow).

I'm just wondering if they are cheaper to buy in France, how available they are or if anyone knows where or if we can buy in the UK cheaper.

I'm also going to need a gas connection for campingaz since I don't think they come with the it.

Thanks for any suggestions

Oooooh good question!! Wouldn't mind knowing that myself. You can get a poor man's version from ASDA but I don't THINK it has mains connection, that was the problem we had with it. Suppose if you had a spare car battery lying around you could manage it that way.....? MAybe??

No idea on the French price, but the Towsure one seems to have gone up to £150

I just bought a Combicool from Camping International in Gillingham, 149.95..... a little more than the cheapest mail order offer but if it packs up i can take it back and dump it on their counter ! One thing that does worry me is that there was no guarantee in the box, I did call them and a guy said.... well i think its a standard one year return to base... but if it does go wrong... just give us a ring ! MMM.... now that sounds ok in principle but it dosnt inspire me with confidence.

Having said that it seems to be a very nice bit of kit and is working pefectly on mains as i write.

Dave

racer, to be honest the manufacturer's guarantee doesn't matter that much. Your contract is with the retailer and, if the item is not of 'merchantable quality' or 'fit for the purpose intended', then it is up to them to sort it out for you.

As you say, buying it from a local shop makes it a bit easier to assert your rights should you need to. And there's no time limit either. A product of this nature should be expected to last more than one year, so your hold over the retailer will last longer than that.

I think that answers my query. At least if I buy in the UK I do have the option of returning it if it goes faulty. Thanks for the help everyone.

The Waeco (sp?) one is made in the same factory as the Combicool (Electrolux?) and is exactly the same, but cheaper. For your information.

Thanks for all the advice I've ordered a combicool, delivery tommorrow, just need to sort out the gas part now. I want to use campingaz since I've been told this is whats available in France. Anyone know what connection I need and the smallest bottle size available to use ?(back to weight in car again). The Combicool is available from Towsure for £129.99 if you phone through(web site £149.99) although as of this morning it is out of stock. If you're not in a hurry it may still be on offer when it comes back in (next week I believe)

You will need a Campingaz Regulator and either a Campingaz 901, 904 or 907 (largest). The Combicool should come with connectors and hosing.

i got my combicool from towsure as well - and it DOES NOT come with hosing or connectors

however these are not expensive to buy
i think i bought 3m of hose and jubilee clips for about £4 from CCC - i didnt need to buy a regulator cos - i 'aquired' one
