Bare in mind we are not up to speed to on everything.
We got out new caravan at the weekend.
cleaned and polished it last night and left the fridge on.
When we went in it today it was stinking to high heavens. We couldnt think what it was till we checked the battery.
THink it is fried :-( we had to leave for a hour before we could even get it out.
We are putting it in for a service on Friday morning but should we just let them sort it all out or do you think they will stick it up our noses. ( boy do I hate not being up to scratch on this caravan lark ;-) )

Do you think it is just that the battery has died , or could it be something wrong else that has caused it?
My OH thought it has some kind of safety thing that should have switched it off and not let it bubble bubble as that is what it was doing. He thought it may be the charger also. He is not 100% clued up on batteries.
I will call the service folk as it it going in tonight for tomorrow. I suppose they will just fit a new battery.
Do they test the battery as part of the service?

The battery is definately overcharging. Get the charger checked / replaced before fitting a battery as it will happen again. The battery is probably ok once it has cooled and the gasses are vented off.
With that level of boiling, the battery is dead, shorted or warped cell. That smell is the life of the battery burning away, that battery is boiled and is dead and dangerous.
Never known a zig or plug in systems fail by (going high voltage) but worth checking, have you got a meter? They are only a few pounds from Maplins. Do not check the voltage without a battery in place.

We have to take the caravan down tonight for its service tomorrow so might as well let them do all the checks I guess and hope they don't hit me for a huge bill. :-(
