Depends on the situation, battery lamps are a good idea when young children are about, but dont produce as much light as the liquid fuel lamps.
Rechargeable lamps are a good deal cheaper to run than lamps that use replaceable throw away batteries. Down side of most rechargeable lamps is that they use lead acid batteries and these will only last several years if looked after (you need to keep then fully charged), but fortunatly they are cheap to replace, £5 for a new battery for the Coleman rechargeable lamp for instance.
