This is our first year of camping and we have managed so far with a Coleman lantern (the one which can be pushed down into itself for storage).  It's ok but a bit feeble (to say the least)!

So, have any of you good people got any recommendation for a decent lamp that produces a powerful, bright light?  Not sure about gas lanterns - not keen on the idea of using it inside the tent.

Await all your suggestions eagerly (the sales have started!!)

Deb

we have a night searcher and the light that it produces is brilliant and it lasts for around 6 hours. its also rechargable and can be recharged from the cigarette lighter in the car. think its on a review on here somewhere.

We have the Coleman collapsible light and it is fine, but a bit feeble - as you say - and this gets really noticeable now as the days shorten. So we bought a Coleman Northstar battery light. It looks very big and solid in comparison to the collapsible one but it really kicks out a very bright light. It is recommended for big tents, so should be able to cope with your Diablo OK! MT

i have a coleman dual fuel lantern (petrol/coleman fuel)... it is extremely bright.. i know you have said about not wanting a gas lantern for use in a tent, but we have had ours for 2 years and it has been fine... just make sure you keep it about a foot away from the fabric.

it also has the added advantage of keeping the tent 'heated' to s small degree, just takes the chill out in the winter.

Tilley storm lamps, the brightest by a long way. Even moreso than the twin mantle ones I've seen. And they cost a fraction of the price. See well known net auction site or local paper. Other benefit they run pretty hat and so give off good heat.

Apologies for intruding on your thread, but please can someone let me know the cheapest place to get the battery operated Coleman Northstar lantern.

I've found it at the Outdoor Megastore for £24.99 but just wondered if there's anywhere else I should be looking?

Thanks for your help.

Rob
