We have decided to invest in a powered cool box/fridge over the winter for camping next year. I know you will all tell me to get the combicool, but car space is VERY limited, so really dont think we can strech to fit that. We have been looking at the Campingaz 28l delux cool box, which our local camping store has a good offer on. Are these cool boxes any good? will they keep stuff cool in the uk summers? And I have seen a few threads about them being noisy, are they?
they are better than nothing, but dont expect miricals with them they are only able to cool about 15 degrees below ambient so if the temperature is 25 in the tent then the fridge is going to be 10 degrees so your marg will be soft and the milk will still go off
they arent really noisy, but the fan does make a wrhing noise but you get used to it. best get one that has a adapter for running on the mains as they will flatten your battery with 2 hrs if the engine isnt running
We have two coolboxes, one camping gaz te 24 and another purchased from woolworths in the sale last month, both are 12v ones Both work fine, keep your milk and other things cool. We were away last week in great yarmouth and it was very hot in tent but everything stayed cool and nothing went off.We run it off a converter from our electric hook up one we use for food the other for the drinks.
We have an electric cool box and find it to be perfectly adequate. It's a 28l one we bought from Lidl for about £25. It was cold enough inside for ice to form at the top if that says anything! Fits in the car nicely, about the same size as a standard large coolbox.

------------- May/June - Spring Valley
Aug/Sept - Leekworth
We've got the Campingaz one and it is really good, but noisy at night. We use freezer blocks at night to keep it cool and switch it back on in the morning. It fits behind my seat and doesn't take up any more room than the plastic carrier full of food we used to have in the same place!

Combicool and there ilk really are the dogs danglers when it comes to keeping stuff cold, more so over a long period, we just use unpowered cool boxs for the weekend stuff, but anything over a weekend we drag the Combicool out, run it on gas it costs buttons.
We have the campingaz one, a TE36 or something, after a few weeks of use the fan became so noisy that on one trip the people in a caravan next to us asked us if we could turn it off at night - it is flipping noisy!! As we ran this off a mains to 12v adaptor we decided to go for a mains fridge instead. We now have a LG desktop fridge with ice making compartment, it's excellent and at around £80 is cheaper than a combicool but obviously not as flexible, but if you camp with EHU all the time it's not a problem. Obviously the size might be an issue for you though.
Dometic do the smallest proper fridge that we have found, its the rc 1500 and at about £200 it is not cheep but we will have one after xmas if funds allow.
we also got one from woolies in the sale and it seems to do the job. milk stays fresh and the marg doesnt go all gooey. think it was reduced from £30 down to £20.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
