Hi Munchter

Has your PDA got Bluetooth?

If so you have a quite a choice, the 2 most common appear to be the TomTom unit and the Navman, both are easy to set up and use. Another to look at and generally available cheaper (ebay etc) is a Holux unit.

Whatever you choose is only as good as the software you have, I use TomTom 5 which seems to be the most common, although there are many others, as I'm sure the replies to this thread will show.

If you don't have bluetooth then it can still be done, but is a bit more involved (wires).

Cheers Paul

Look for software that you can edit the POI database. So you can include all the things you are interested in not the ones that the software manufacturer thinks you should be interested in...lol

My Dad just got my Mum a PDA with Sat Nav software included and a wired GPS reciever. She has not used it yet but I installed the software on my laptop & got a GPS unit for it. The software is ProDrive Navigator which includes all europe maps.

It works but can not add the POIs I want. I don't need sat nav in the UK but will be using it when we go to France next year to save the obligitary arguments with the Map reading. ( wife not fully trained yet with a map...lol)

Tom Tom seems to be the standard but it does not work on laptops unless you run a PDA emulation software which is a pain. I will go with MS Autoroute 2006 which has voice guidance and is very editable for POIs. I have been thinking about getting a 7" touch screen so I can put the laptop out af the way (about £100 on ebay)

Loads of software & GPS units available on ebay. If you don't have bluetooth you can get a wired GPS reciever & the right lead for most PDA's on ebay too

I started asking this question a few weeks ago. There are loads of threads if you put SatNav or GPS into the search facility.

I have an IpAQ 2210 and it would appear the front runner by a long way is TomTom Navigator 5 with Bluetooth GPS receiver. Can be bought with the hard wire option if you don't have Bluetooth.

I plan to buy after Christmas and am keeping an eye on prices via http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/product/Tomtom-Navigator-5--UK-GPS-Receiver/25187098.html the price has come down from about £180 to £165 delivered in the last two weeks already.

Hope you find what you want.
