Hi Brian

I use a Grundig (Ebay) and a dish mounted on a redundant photographic tripod (see my gallery images).

I bought a satellite finder and a cheap compass and experimented setting it up at home first. The first few tries took me about 30 minutes, then I marked the compass with some nail varnish so now all I do is set up the tripod, align the dish roughly with the compass and the nail varnish marks and fine tune the signal with the meter.

I reckon all in all about 5 to 8 minutes now.

HTH

Paul

Hi if your using a compass point the sky dish 28 degrees west of south this will be 152 on the compass. The dish itself should be almost vertical from top to bottom.

don't forget to set it all up before you turn the power on at the mains as an electrical currant is sent down the cable to the dish and if you set it up after the power is on it will never work until you turn it off and on again..

Hope this helps

jeff

Low price Satfinder can be found here. It includes a small patch cable which you would otherwise need to buy seperately.

Your looking to find South South West

I start from the south and turn the dish very slowly towards the East with the angle of elevation on the high side.

The meter registers two strong analogue satellites and then the inclination is dropped a little before continuing to turn the dish to the east until you pick up the weaker digital satellite signal.

You have to go very very slowly

As I have said before Swiss Tony would say that finding the satellite is very much like making love to a beautiful woman

You need to take your time until you get the knack
