Could any one give me any advice on airbeds and which one to buy total new to this went on a camping trip last year on cheap woolworths bed and got a cold bum.. was impossible to pump bed up hard enough...just need sopme guidance thanxs dont really wanna spend aload of cash on summat thats not worth it
it depends on how much you want to spend and if you might have serious aches in the morning!
Flock airbeds are quite good and lots of people are raving about the coleman comfort air bed, which is about £15 for a single and £24 for a double.
If you do a search on here for airbeds there are loads of threads about them.
Tesco are selling the flocked ones for just under £8 at the moment, Argos, Milletts etc do them. Also your local camping shop but if yours is anything like ours, it will be overpriced!
I recomend flocked air beds still camping on the air bed that I used when I was 5! Ours never go down so you don't wake up on the floor the next morning.
Most people rave about the coleman comfort metioned by lisa+lee I don't have one but apparently they are excellent becuse if you share with someone when they move your side of the bed doesn't.
The best way to avoid a cold bum is to put something underneath the air bed we put bivvy mats under ours others on here put an emergency blanket (the foil type ones) they are about a pound it helps to keep the heat in.
As for pumping up the air bed more, if you pump it up too much it will be uncomfortable. You want to sink a little into the airbed, like you would on a matress.
We got our airbed from Argos...I think it was about £10.00..!
We use a car battery pump (can remember where it's from but it fab and wasn't expensive.) We have never had a problem with 'cold bums.'

Can't really use that to top it up in the middle of the night (at night as temperature drops so the air pressure inside the airbed drops too).
If you get cold using an airbed (it's quite a lot of air for your body to have to heat up) you could try camp beds which keep you clear of the ground - they are comfortable and not expensive (Argos do them for about £8 each).
I love my coleman we used it for the first time last week and it was really comfy, just like sleeping at home. I put foam mats and a duvet under the sleepingf bag and we were very toasty.
Hi - we've got the coleman double which is basically two singles joined together. When the OH moves my side is not affected. Nice and comfy. Be using it this coming weekend.
I can't seem to get on with flock airbeds, they seem to get punctures too easy or just deflate in the night for no apparrent reason. Mum's managed to do both last summer! I stick with the red and blue cotton covered rubbery ones. I've just got a new double one as the old one started to unstick between the air spaces, meaning I had big lumps in bed (not the OH) but it had seen several years of camping and kids staying on it overnight at home. They're on sale in Argos at the moment, £14.99 instead of £18.99.
We use an Intex High Rise Double Airbed that's almost as comfy as our bed at home as we are miles off the ground and you don't have the crawl around like a turtle stuck on it's back to get out of bed.

we've just ordered the coleman comfort double airbed(new to camping) we've also got 3 season sleeping bags on order - will we be warm enough with just these during summer months or are we best outting something extra underneath ????
Some people put blankets under the airbed, (some use newspaper!) some put something on top of it under you. Some swear by the silver backed ones to stop the cold air. Don't know which works best but it's cold without anything under at all.

You should be warm enough in summer unless you are at high altitude. However, you get damp between your sleeping bag and the airbed ( due to warm moist air coming off you and your sleeping bag, and meeting the cold air of the air bed) so for that reason a layer between is a good idea. Cheap sleeping mats or picnic rugs do fine. Also lift your sleeping bags out each day so the airbed can air, and spread your bedding in the tent on chairs on across car seats so that they can air/dry out. You would be amazed how much water we humans give off!

We have 3 season bags and have used them in October and January so you should have NO problem using them in the summer months.!!
