There's been quite a few posts about 'hook ups' from Ebay, mostly negative I'm afraid... When you include the postage it doesn't seem much cheaper than buying a 'proper' one from a camping supplier...
Someone like 'Dukedog' (who is well qualified to advise on such things) will come along and let you know whether it's safe or not, but I wouldn't take a chance...
The usual price for a single E.H.U. seems to be around £45 (£55 for a triple point) from camping suppliers. So... Is it worth the 'risk' to save a tenner?...

The unit does not include an RCD, so is not as safe as those purchased from camping stores.
If you want to be as safe as possible then the answer I'm afraid is not to buy this one.

I think I read somewhere on here that EHU leads need to be fully unwound or there is a risk of them overheating - I don't know why this applies to EHU leads and not other extension leads that you can keep on a reel. Maybe someone will be able to clear the fog for me!

The cable reels i have at home have 2 ratings on the casing one wound up and one fully unwound there is quiet a diferance
We were always taught at college to unwind the whole of the cable, in order to check it for any defects before use, if left wound up and there was a minor defect then the whole of the reel would be damaged, not to say that you are using unsafe equipt.
Any electric cable kept on a reel should be fully unwound before use...it`s something to do with the electric current generating a magnetic field when coiled and they also get hot. You`ll get away with it if you`re only drawing a small amount of power though.
Whatever. Back to the Ebay EHU. I`m deeply suspicious of home-made EHUs on ebay, whatever they quote in standards. Yes they may meet three standards but for all I know (I haven`t looked this up, I admit) there may be three more standards they`ve ignored. Best to go to your local camping emporium or a reputable online camping shop and get one ina box with all the safety stamps down the side.
Incidentally there`s been a lot of posts lately about the way the sockets face on a triple EHU. Vertically aligned sockets can cause problems when using three plugs at once while if the sockets open sideways you use all three easily. Check before you buy.
