I picked a up a Streetpilot I3 in QuikSave after somebody on this forum recommended one for £99. I havent seen one cheaper elsewhere since!!!!!For the price Ive been really pleased, its been useful on a number of occasions.
Im hoping to use it for a Florida trip later this year but the maps for the USA are .......£175!!!!! As an alterntive, I thought that I would see how much one was in Walmart in the states , but they are $350ish out there.(So no "rip-off" Britain on this occasion)
Ultmately both options are no brainers....can anyone suggest an alterntive?????
Hi mattyg, I've been looking for a garmin i3 for a while and the best price I found was £129.99 from woolworths. Have you got a web address for QuikSave.
As for the USA maps, very expensive. What should be set up is a online library of contacts willing to swap SD cards with relevant maps.
What mapping sofware does the I3 use? I have a garmin quest which uses city select - which seems to be used for most Garmin Models. Before I went to the USA I bought the City Select USA disks from a guy in the states on ebay & it was much cheaper than the UK price. I had no problems loading the maps into my quest & it worked really well.
This was the response I got from Garmin UK - I dont know whether his helps?
"To get North American mapping onto your StreetPilot i3 you will need to purchase the North American mapping CD. The Garmin part number for this item is: 010-10473-00.

In addition to this you would need to purchase an extra Micro-SD card to send the American mapping onto."
I assume you are hiring a car while your there,have you considered renting a sat nav from the car rental co most of them rent them now?I dont know how much it costs as I never bother I find driving in Florida very easy ,remember all odd no roads go north-south and even no's east- west.
