Is anyone an expert on these.  Are they worth investing in and do they recharge your battery to any great extent.I am a complete novice and know nothing about them but they seem a good idea. Solar panels that is.   Nigel

costly and not powerful ! your better off buying a generator as the panels dont give a large amount of power.

Hi Nigel ...yep they work however size is the problem! You need a panel that will give you the equivilent of you car battery charger at home...about 5 amps. So you are looking for a panel of around 50-60 watt. But the down size is this is 1000mm x 500mm x 50mm!  ...the cost will be about £400. Then you need a case (£100 or make one yourself from plywood) and some way of tracking the sun i.e a stand (£50) and also a voltage regulator (£35).

Then you need a leisure battery (long cycle) to store the free power (£100) The more sun the more free power. Before you go to bed rotate the stand for the dawn light and away you go. Forget camping stores research marine supplies or give me an email and I'll explain more.
