Does anyone know if you have to purchase the expensive stuff to use for the flush part of your loos, as well as the other stuff in the `holding` part (for want of a better word), or are there any cheaper disinfectants etc out there you can use? We just paid over £12 for 2 bottles of stuff for ours and wondered if plain old Zoflora would do just as good.
We don't have a flush tank, our water is drawn direct from the Aquaroll, so our flush is plain water, seems to work fine. We use the blue in the bottom and find it strong enough.
With the porta potti's it is recommended you only use camping stuff ........ something to do with household chemicals not good news for the plastic ........ or something like that
Sure someone will know - to explain it better ...........
The recommended disinfectants are so concentrated that they seem to last forever, I think using the cheaper ones would prove to be a false economy in the long run.
You dont have to buy the brand names like Thetford or Elsan. We always used to buy the blue and the Pink in 2 litre no brand containers and they were around £3.00 each. Seen it in a numbere of caravan dealers shops.
I dont know the brands you mention, I use the cheapest bleach I can get from shops like 'Quicksafe' (;-) you only have to make sure you dilute it according to manual, as for washing floors or the like not to damage the plastic. That said, I only pour the diluted solution into the bowl overnight, because I don't use the flush, but I am sure it could go into the flush container. And I only use the potty for wee jobs. But given that situation, cheap bleach works fine. When I empty the bottom container I rinse it with a bleach solution too, as an extra.
