Just popped into Lidl and got the ASCI Camping Europe guide (4100 sites in 25 countries - excellent value at £4.99.  Colour photo of EVERY site featured.  Inside there is offer of CD version of guide 8400 sites in Europe for £6.95 (£3.00 off RRP) and ASCI campsite discount card which gives reduced site fees.

Looking forward to trying out some of the sites.

My post was ambiguous.  The guide has an page which OFFERS

(1)  The DVD (NOT CD sorry another mistake) for £6.99 (inclusive of P&P) - allegedly a discount of £3 from the RRP

As well as double the number of campsites it says it includes photos, slide show and detailed route planner.

(2)  The Discount card which comes with a guide, presumably to sites accepting it and costs £4.50 (Plus postage of £1.35).  This card offers and I quote

Camp for Euro 10, 12, 14

Rate for 2 adults, incl camping pitch, electricity and warm water (?)

No advance payment

Immediate discount on presentation of your card.

I wonder if this discount may be off-peak like camping cheques - it doesn't say either way.  There is a website for the card www.campingcard.co.uk

Thanks T and C. I think you'll find there are two distinct ASCI "Guides"- one which has relatively few sites listed, but which does contain the discount card (they've been for sale on EBay) and which which is more of a sites guide with around 4000 European Site but which does NOT include the card. It is clearly this latter book which Lidl have for sale

The ASCI website lists the DVD as costing £9.95 so if you buy the book fr from Lidl you do really save £3.00.  They don't advertise the book guide (ex-LIdl) on their website and I suspect they may have sold it off to Lidl and gone over to DVD guide only.

The Camping Card does discounts for off-peak site stays only - it would still be worth if if you are holidaying at off-peak times.  Unfortunately that's not really an option for us teachers.
