Does anyone use a 12v hairdryer and if so are they any good, we are off camping this weekend without electric hook-up and without a dryer my hair is wild. Ive been and had a look at them in the camping shop and the one ive seen is 100 watts mine at home is 1200 watts so this seems really low wattage im worried that it will be a bit pathetic. Is there anyone who has uncontrolable hair and if so what do you do. I cant wear a hat as i look a right numpty in them.

thanks s.j

Unfortunately they are a bit pathetic.  Not very powerful and not very hot.  But better than nothing.  I too have wild hair but i have discovered gas powered straightners that are very hot so i let my hair dry naturally then run the straightners through it. it also has a bit on it so you can use it to flick hair anyway you like.  Mine cost £18.99

but i found a good use for it as our car is a diesel it takes a while for engine to get hot in winter so you can demist inside windows the 12v hairdrier has my windows clear on inside in about 1 min flat otherwise its 10 mins before they start to clear result extra 10 mins in bed

Gas curling brushes are better. If you just keep "combing" your hair. 12V hairdryers are useless better to sit in the car with the heaters on!

stick your head under the hand drier.  These are a waste of time and money.  12v is no good at "heaters" such and kettles, hairdryers etc.  You just can not really get enough wattage out of the std 12v battery.

I used the hand-drier at a camp last year, we didn't have ehu, and there wasn't anywhere to plug in my hair-dryer.  That worked fine, I have curly hair that i straighten every day.

I also bought a straightener last year, rechargeable, which was worse that useless. It hardly heated, and lasted ten minutes before needing charged up again.  It worked from the cig lighter, but I gave up in the end.

The next site we went to had a place for hair dryers, and straighteners.  But I had left my 'real' straighteners at home.  I was raging because I watched everybody use theirs every night before they went to the club, and I had left mine behind.

If all else fails, wear a cap in the daytime, and have a few drinks at night, so you don't care what it looks like!!!

Roz

I`ve got poker straight hair, so no need for straighteners. I used to have a bob though and it was a total PIB trying to find a socket for the travel hairdryer. Then I decided to grow my hair long and..... freedom! No more hairdryers, no more hassle, I just wash my hair and put it up in a bun or twist while wet. It doesn`t get in the way, it doesn`t tangle up on a windy site, I don`t need to keep combing it or anything. If I take it down to go out in the evening it has body and isn`t all roughened up with the wind. If you wanted it poker straight at this point it would only be a question of running the straighteners over it then.
