We have just recently bought our first touring caravan and are keen to get away to England this year in it. We are a bit apprehensive about putting up the awning though, is it really as difficult as people have lead us to believe to put it up? Any advice please help
We went away for the first time a few weeks ago, and no it wasn't hard, just common sense really. As people have pointed out on here before, if you are struggling there is usually someone willing to lend a hand.
Hi Wendy, this may help if you've never put one up before, it does get easier the second time, mark the poles with coloured tapes after the first time, so you know what goes where.
.hi its not that bad putting an awning up(it can't be as me and the o h are as thick as two short planks)lol..all you need to do is figare out wot pole goes where first if they are marked that bit is easy..you can tell which bit goes where.. then just thread your awning though the rail,poles at the ready and your sorted it might take you about 30mins the first time..but each time it you put it up it gets easyer

If you can, have a practice first. We tried ours at home and found it goes on easier from back to front, where our old one went on better front to back. We also take a small (2 step) set of steps as we are both short ar*es.
Once you've put it up a couple of times, you'll look like an expert.
Its not that difficult, and people won't really laugh, most have been in the same position.

First awning we ever had, we colour coded each bit so that we knew which bit went into which other bit. Like one red line around one bit with one red line on the bit it went into then two red lines at the other end etc.
But with the newer ones, they're much easier so now hubby just lays out the poles on the grass in the positions they need to go up in and off we go. Poles up first then feed in the awning itself and bring it over the upright poles. Jobs a good un.
We also have three hooks on the side of the garage wall at home so that the whole thing can be put up against that if we need to give it a clean or any re-proofing, so if you can do that, you'll be able to get plenty of practice in at home, so you'll almost look like a pro when you get on site.
We went for a Porchlite awning, (like a tent) and it's really easy to put up, takes about 10 minutes but does need 2 people. There are only 3 poles to set up. Also taking down in the rain isn't a problem as the awning stays lightweight and rain just shakes off.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
