Hi Guys

I'm still looking for a reasonably priced solution for the above, was looking at the Maxxraxx until they informed me they were having problems, just glad I didn't buy like some others have already posted.

buy-a-bike-carrier.co.uk have a similar model to the Maxxraxx and I was wondering if anyone else had used them.

All comments and suggestions welcome.

Mick

Hi Carterma,

May seem like a stupid question, but I take it you definitely need a 4 x 4 carrier? There are many 4x4s that can take a standard vertical rack, particularly as clipper-type carriers for swan-necked bars rise from the ball, as opposed to a plate behind it.

Hi John T

I have a Honda CR-V with Witter detachable swan neck towbar and would like to tow and carry cycles at the same time. I've considered the roof bar\cycle carrier options but think it will be too much like hard work loading and unloading for myself, but probably impossible for my wife.

The towbar option seems to be the nearest I can get to the best solution, but I also appreciate there are some problems to be had with this option and it is by no means perfect.

Not sure what you mean by clipper-type carriers and if you have a suggestion it would be most welcome.

Cheers

Mick

Hi Mick,

Sorry - been a bit busy today to say the least!!!!

The clipper-type don't look the securest but they're actually very good and secure (cheap too!): I really try to avoid linking to our site on UKCS but there is a picture here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product.asp?p=416  The picture doesn't show that it clips onto the ball - great for swan necks but not for towing.

We don't sell a bar-mounted rack for the swan-neck that lets you tow at the same time. I've glanced at the Malmos site but without a magnifying glass and more time I can't see whether they'd let you tow at the same time (although I imagine that some will). Most carriers that allow you to tow at the same time attach to a car plate between the ball and bar (i.e., not suitable for swan-necks).

Other options for you would include strappy carriers (such as: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product.asp?p=420 ) but I'd have to check suitability for your vehicle, or going down the caravan carrier route (http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product.asp?p=2333 ).

I'm sure Malmos would be able to advise you further about their range,

John T.

(sorry about all the links)

Hi Carterma,

I've researched this at length over the past months and the only solutions I have come up with (if you want a swan neck tow bar carrier and wish to tow as well), is the one from MaxxRaxx and also the one from www.buy-a-bike-carrier.co.uk

I've not yet made the decision but at present am swaying towards the one from buy-a-bike-carrier as it is more attractively priced (cheaper!!).

Need to order soon!

JohnR

Hi JohnR

Done the same research myself with same conclusion, however, neither have the swan neck in stock at the mo so back to square 1.

I too am in desperate need to sort the bike rack so if you do happen across another solution please let me know and I'll do the same. Good luck.

Mick

Hi Mick,

Serves me right for dithering! I should have ordered one from Buy-a-bike-carrier weeks ago when I had convinced myself, that was the best solution.

I don't want to go down the route of a rear carrier, but if something else doesn't come up then it might be the only solution. Any word of when stock might be available?

If anything else comes to light I'll let you konw.

Cheers.

Caterma/Mick,

Buy-a-Bike-Carrier will have the swan neck adapter back in stock next week. Hope this helps. I've now ordered one as there is no other alternative at present.

Cheers.
