We are thinking about going away this weekend but my oh is worried about missing the footie. We have a baby so may not be able to go to some pubs with him. We have an electric hookup and just wanted to check that we won't be out of order running a portable telly from it (with the volume down of course). I still haven't got the hand of what is and isn't acceptable in regards to hookups.

We ran my OH's laptop and freecom system from our EHU last week - no problem.

You can run a portable no problem but you may not get a reception.
Should imagine you'd find a child friendly pub somewhere to watch the match, check now, use Yell.com to find out local pubs and ask them so you know one way or the other.------------- Tar-paullynn

Thanks Guys

the other option is to turn the radio on. ok so you dont get to see any action, but the commentary is better------------- Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional

We take our TV but you will need a decent arial. My O/H would hate watching the footie if the picture was dodgy. I think the radio is a great idea.

The radio can be back up plan 3 - my OH is quite keen to see the action.

If he is keen and you aren't that fussed and there are no child friendly pubs around would you consider letting him out for a couple of hours on his own, on condition he comes home sober of course.------------- Tar-paullynn

What was the picture like, looking for a laptop tv solution but finding it difficult to get some decent reviews / feedback on the various types. Have fitted a TV card to the desktop in the past and it was ok ish, slow and glitchy at times, needed main aerial connection to get any picture (was a WinTV PCI card)

We bought a 7" LCD Medion telly from Aldi about a month ago and went camping with it a few weeks ago.
Was able to watch the World Cup games while camping in the Lake District.(and reception is supposed to be bad there)
Sitting outside our tent, beer in hand, England winning, Luverly......................
