We're thinking of buying a slim roof box to go alongside the 2 kayaks we carry on the car roof. It is really proving difficult to get children, dog, camping gear, canoe paddles and kitchen sink in the car these days. (Yes, we have gone for a larger car and it doesn't seemed to have worked!)
Anyone got any experience of these boxes? The Thule one looks great but expensive. Halfords have one for £183 - is this reasonable and worth the money?
We have the same problem - 2 kayaks/paddles etc. and have used a Thule roofbox for 10 years now with this arrangement. (2 kayaks on uprights and a roofbox). Have never had a problem. Paddles go in roofbox and if space is at a premium in the car, kayak kit goes in boats with spraydeck on to hold things in. Infact we now have a trailer as well!
Not used any other roof boxes but the Thule one has had 10 years of hard use.
Liz T, we have just bought the Halfords roof box for £183 (the black carbon one) and yes its brill, and good value for money (20% off at the mo).
Very easy to fit / remove and light as a feather. To us its worth the money, as it will get used about 10 times a year. And as it's a slim fit, there is room for two bike racks (not sure about Kayaks though)
