Hi

Tent user here requesting advice on Electric Cool Boxes.  We are experiences campers that do not use Elec Hook Ups but are tired of our margarine melting!  We want to upgrade our standard cool box which is very old.  Looking at the electric cool boxes that can get plugged into the ciggy lighter of the car.

Does anyone have one?  Can they recomend a brand / make.  Also when the car is not running I understand they have a build in battery - how long does this work for.  Anything will be better than our existing plastic sweat box!

Help apprecaited.

Thanks

I don't know of one with a built in power pack, maybe someone knows different, I would be interested to hear if there is one.

Hiya ,to run one of the 'coolers' your talking about of a battery ,it would only last mins !

If you want a proper fridge see here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/pp/Cooking/Coolers/Sibir_RC1100_Refrigerator.html

It can be run off an EHU ,but equaly it can run off gas too ,so less restricting!

We recently purchased an Igloo Koolmate 40 and I must say it's excellent. It runs off the 12 volt in the car, but we also purchased an adapter/transformer so that we can run it off EHU as well. It cools to 25 degrees below the ambient temperature which I think is good and it really is whisper quiet. There is a review in the 'Features & Tips' section on this site.

Hi Katherine, we recently purchased one from Woolworths reduced from £59.99 to £29.99, it holds 24 ltrs and they also sell the mains adapter for it at the bargain price of £12.99!

I can recommend the outwell one - got one recently, and it kept my milk and wine cool on a very hot summers day.

however, I also recommend getting an electric hookup or a leisure battery to run it from, rather than using the car battery, or you might be getting friendly with the AA/RAC/green flag/etc

Be careful running an electric cool box on 12v. We did this once and next morning had a flat battery!!!
