We have an old Vapalux paraffin lantern which I have just dusted off; it appears to work OK though not as bright as I remembered. But it did get very hot and the handle at the top was too hot to hold.
Is it therefore safe to use in our new tent ?
Presumably we could not hang it up but would need to use it on the ground; not ideal with young children who could get burnt.
I've never used mine in the caravan, tent or folding camper, but I used it in an awning ok. On a table where it couldn't get knocked over and not near the walls or roof.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
No appliance with a flame is "safe" in a tent. Tents are flammable. I never use gas lamps inside the tent.
But of course you can minimise the risks by keeping it on a metal table and making sure the kids don`t touch it. you couldn`t put it on the floor of the Aspen...it sounds as if you`d burn a neat hole right through the SIG. My thought though is "Why bother at all with it?" I could never relax the entire time with something like that in the same tent as my kids. Buy a nice rechargable or battery operated lamp instead for the inside of the tent. Keep the hot one for sitting outside by when they`ve gone to bed.
