Hi We have just bought a Renault Trafic N reg camper - it has a Zig unit with a lesiure battery that is trickle charged from the engine.  We would like to have an EHU fitted - Mum's husband is an electrician and has offered to fit and wire for me but he wants an electrical diagram or avice about how he goes about it as we would like the EHU to also change the leisure battery aswell.  Any ideas very welcome.

Thanks

I'm an electrician and as far as I am aware, you can just use a normal car battery charger connected to the mains feed. However I'm a tenter so not sure if there are any specific regulations regarding caravans.

You could just connect the two batteries together via a "cut-out" (Not sure what they are called but you can buy them from camping shops I think)

Thanks for the reply, I have just called a camping shop who reccomended I buy a Haynes manual specifically for installing EHUs in campervans. it wasn't cheap at £17.99 but I will give it to my Mums husband to read, lucky dog!  I'm hoping this will enable him to fit the EHU confidently - the camping shop also sell a kit which includes the hook up socket, cables, consumer unit and 2 single internal sockets for £80 - i'm not sure what a garage would charge but probably more than £100.  Fingers crossed.

Sorry - just realised - you haven't got a socket on the van have you.!  That is what you are asking about.  (Who's a dummy then)

So sorry again - never fitted one but I would guess there are units to buy similar to a normal car battery charger.  If you could show me the bits you have got (take a pic) I should be able to work it out.

Thanks Gardener but with the manual now on order I think we will be able to sort it out.  Cheers
