sorry for being so vague, but no I don't have a trailer or towbar as of yet, so I was looking for advice on type/size of trailer, towbars, electics, cycle carriers, security, etc.
This is going to sound really girly and I apologise in advance, but I just wanted to put my two penneth in!
we, rather my oh, bought a brenderup trailer a couple of years ago. It will take up nearly all of your voucher but is excellent quality. It is very strong and well made. You can have low sides or add on the other panels for full height. It is also very long and sturdy. A drop down tailgate is very handy. The wheels are are big and compatable for towing it abroad. You can get solid lockable lids as well. We have also got cycle racks that attach over the top.
You will also need a wheel clamp, and I think they can be pretty expensive. The caravaners would know more about them.
You also need to check your insurance. If you have a company car odds on you will need to get seperate insurance.
We have used ours for family camping, lugging hale bales around and transporting furniture to France for family. You will find everyone becomes your friend when they need something moving!
At the end of the day it is like tents, but with not as much choice, its a personal decision. There is no point getting a big expensive trailer if you don't need to. We have a trailer dealership nearby so were lucky to be able to see lots in one place.
Most campers have erde, so there must be something about them.
I would suggest that you first getting costings for how much it is going to be to fit a tow bar, plus electics to your car, then you will know how much you will have left to spend on a trailer, because this may dictate what size, type or make you will be able to afford.
i found tow equipe to be very helpfull and very very cheap - ive bought a detachable by brink from them for 158 and a swan neck by bosai for 89 quid - obviously thats just for supply , they come with instructions to fit , but personally i found a man that new a man that knew another man that could fit it for £50 - they are on the web - www.towequipe.co.uk i think ! 48 hour delievery thats free on certain orders ,
As for the trailer benderup is in a league of its own , but you pay the price , personally i got a small metal one out the local paper for a song then just rubbed it down , hammerite , added some taller sides , new cover , spare wheel added , re-wired - jobs a good en ! all in all i spent 130 on the trailer , it tows lovely , sits at 70 all day long ( 60 if the police are looking ) take some time to get tyre pressures right tho , i found 60 psi too hard and the trailer bounced , 40psi the trailer felt heavy , 50 is just about right for mine , but you have to take into account the weight you have , so spend some time getting that right and you wont realise youve got it behind you !
