As a rapidly approaching geriatric and relatively new to camping this question will probably cause a few ripples amongst you hardy experienced campers.

I have camping gaz powered cooker, a gas BBQ with a push fit regulator for this new fangled patio gas and thinking about getting a gas powered griddle that folks were using quite extensively on holiday. Am I right in supposing that if I changed all the regulators then I could use standard (and cheaper I think) calor butane on all appliances.

Any help for an old fart greatly appreciated.

There are any number of experienced users on here who probably know a lot more than I, but you are right in that you could standardise the regulator type and use the same bottle for all three devices. There is also the option of getting a splitter/manifold and connecting more than one device at a time - we had a thread on this subject very recently.

I can't see any problem with doing that, but something to be aware of is that even using calor butane there are different regulators on different size bottles. I use 7kg at home for gas BBQ which has a push fit regulator and black turn switch, and on my smaller 4.5kg cylinder used for camping has a screw on regulator with a turn wheel on the actual cylinder.

I too use camping gaz on my trailer tent cooker but have used butane on it when I rang out, just a case of swapping around the regulators, but now carry spare regulators just in case.

geriatric - is this the same Colin who goes camping every year to Le Mans?

The answer is yes, you can use plain old calor butane, but you won't be able to get this "refilled" in France, whereas with Camping Gaz you can.

Rather then changing all the regulators though, why not get a tee connector to run more than one appliance from the same bottle. See here

Also the following post may interest you. If you don't have Calor bottles, get them from the tip and exchange for the size you want.
