at least you will attract the moths from everyone else....in the county if you say your lamps dont detract from your night vision then there not working ,one glance at my petromax and thats it for an hour
We just had our 1st camping trip and we lit the tent using a 12v twin tube flourescent light off a car battery, you can use it with just the one tube or both running. Gave out great light in the tent, ideal for reading, cooking.
Got it from Towsure, only charged me £8.50 although it was marked as $12.75 and the RRP is £16.50 - Towsure product number A16
I would use a few of theseThey run on 12 volts and only draw 170ma, so you could run about six of them and still only draw 1 amp. Thats means if you have a large leisure battery you wouldn't even notice any power loss over months... one of these LED tower bulbs is better and brighter than those 12volt 8watt fluorescenttubes. Also you can run 3 of them and still use less AH's. They are used for replacement bulbs in caravans and boats, They are brighter and use less power than normal bulbs..
They last over 10,000 hours that = 10 years+ on continuous. Wow!
I posted this last week sometime.. I did a wild camp lastnight and tested the new tower bulb out. All i can say is its fantastic and i'll be getting more of them.. Up until now i have been using LED's but the spot type like this one>> these give off lots of clean light, but i thought i'd try the new tower LED's out. They are just what you need in a large family tent etc and they only draw 170.ma so you could run 6 and still only draw about one Amp. you only really need to use one or two of these tower LED's ...

Delta .. do you know if the one you tried was the 'warm white' or the 'cool white' type. I've always found LED lights to be too harsh, but had never heard of warm white ones 'till I looked at the UltraLeds website.

Hello Peridot, the tower light i used was the cool white one. The spread of light was fantastic. If you find them a little harsh you can always use a homemade shade like light gels etc,or what i use sometimes is the lid from sure crystal ice anti-perspirant. That takes the glare away...

Thanks Delta. I'm very tempted to go down this road for next season. The halogen light I hang in the main living area is just the right height to catch my head every time I walk under it and this, together with the other two battery operated lamps that I use take up a fair amount of space. A couple of these off a little sealed lead acid battery is an attractive alternative.

Go for it, you won't be disapointed they would be fantastic in your living area or an awning.. very low power drain, very lightweight too.. You could even use them with lipo type batteries, like these to make them very portable indeed.(hang anywhere) you would charge the lipo's from your leisure battery in the daytime. The lipo's would run them for about 8+ hours, you could hang them anywhere too as the Led tower lights, are lightweight and so are the Lipo batteries, I just run a wire to mine though from my leisure battery via my multi box (see gallery pic's) Cheers Delta..
