Just taken the plunge and bought a tent and all the stuff that goes with it! We are now looking into lights and wondered if anyone had any thoughts - not using EHU, so its battery or gas.
What would everyone recommend - and what do you think about the Coleman Powerhouse lantern (duel fuel)?
The powerhouse is very very bright - about the equiv of a 150 W bulb. We have one and I think its brill. About 1/2 a lt of fuel will last more than 10 hours. If you do get one DON'T try to light it inside the tent as they can sometimes "flare up". We also have a campingGaz lantern - not as bright but still pretty good. This uses the re-sealable canisters that cost about £5 each and will last approx 20 hours.
The other way is to get a lesure battery and a couple of hanging or clip on 12v low energy lamps
I agree, we where away in Devon last week and bought a campingaz lantern that runs off a cv270 canister. the lamp was £16.99 and £3.70 for the gas, definately worth it as I have another lantern that runs off 4 big batteries and that costs around £8 a time for decent batteries.
I use the coleman dual fuel lantern, they kick out light and heat and a reasuring sound of camping. But we use a coleman florescent lantern with a remote control as a safe night light in the pod. Both are great for what they do, I like the way you can dim the dual fuel lantern but you can do that with gas lanterns too. And batteries in the florecent seem to last an age, 2 weeks plus.
