I have been looking at these as opposed to a solid roof box. Made by Thule, they should be extremely good.

The nice thing is that you can take them off easyly and store them in little space - that certainly is an attraction for us!

yes they are. i brought one 4 weeks ago. although tey arent like the solid boxes they do have the added ability of being able to roll up into its own bag for safe storage and to store away somewhere smaller than the solid box.

its the best roof box we ever brought. cost us £119 from halfords as they had them on a special. but i wopuld recommend it to everyone.

Do you already have roof bars? We have never had a car with  roof bars so we have used one of these http://www.familyonboard.com/Roof_Bag_Car_Top_Carriers.html with great success for the last six or eight years since we bought it. We have also lent it to various friends at different times who have been equally impressed. MT

We bought a "rackinabag" and used it when we went away in August.  I cant say it fills me with joy.  We didnt scratch the roof or loose anything but I was forever checking the fixings and everything.  I think it would be better if I bought some proper waterproof bags instead of just covering over with a dodgy blue tarp. Did the job though and only cost about £35.

Sorry too thick to create a link, just google it.

I looked at it but decided against it and went for a solid one as I was told you could not leave it on the car empty and sometimes I cannot be bothered to take mine off for short period.

Thank you for 2 excellent ideas - anything to save money as we don't have roofbars!
