Now that winter's struck here in Yorkshire I am naturally turning my attention to cooling my motorhome down! My present MH has a Dometic air con unit which is superb but was very expensive. We are changing the Ecovip for a smaller MH and weight and cost are a definite issue. Investigating the Ecovip's successor I was told that small portable air con units (or maybe air cooling units) were now available in the market place. Trouble is I have not been able to track one down. Any clues as to type, make or stockists would be much appreciated.
I know there was a huge demand for portable air con in the summer. Maybe some are up for grabs now at a bargain price. I certainly do not want to have one bult in again. The usage just does not justify the cost even when spening three months or so in sunnier climes.
One thing I would say if you are used to split air conditioning systems - ALL portables are noisy - you may find this impossible to live with. You also have to have an outlet for the exhaust hose and drain pipe - either a window or a door.
the trick is to keep them in a small room with only the vent going outside the windows and doors shut,we picked up a 8,000 btu one for £15 at a boot fair and ignoring the noise kept our bedroom at a definately chilly temperature so much so it was switched to the "cool" setting rather than the "cold" one at bedtime
pointless havning at at its coldest setting if you need to get the blankets out to keep warm ,best £15 quid spent this year .
