I recently purchased an Akura 15" LCD TV and need to connect it to my small Tesco DVD player and Philips Freeview box. The television table is quite small on my Bailey Arizona and I wish to reduce the amount of space that the cables take up. Does anyone know where I can purchase short scart to scart leads, no more than 20 to 30cms long. I can get 50cms and over..
Hi, magnum23. On our last outing, I told OH that I was fed up with TV connector leads everywhere. Scart leads can be dismantled, and I intend to unsolder all the connections of one plug, shorten the lead, then resolder etc. I don't think these leads are available in suitable short lengths.
Seved my apprenticeship on Radar, so soldering not a problem. One thing though; All the scart plugs I have come across seem to have the cable coming out at 45 degrees. On my LCD TV, this causes the scart cable to foul the TV aerial cable.
Has anyone seen scart plugs thet allow the cable to come out at 90 degrees to the pins?
You can get cheaper scart leads that don't have all the pins soldered. Its also thinner and more flexible
I shortened one by cutting the wire so that about 2mm of coloured sleeve was left on one plug.
I then shortened the long lead and removed the short length of coloured sleeve as I soldered them together thus ensuring that connection was to the correct pin.
I used short lengths of slightly bigger sleeving to cover the bare wire and prevent shorting
Using this diagram you could just join the leads you need

I had a problem with the Manhattan in that the scart wire came out upwards.
I managed to overcome this by reversing the metal block inside the black plastic (top to bottom) and a little carving with the craft knife allowed the case to close.
You may be able to do that to avoid the aerial.
Another thought is to use the phono sockets to a scart lead if available

Hi Bertie
Just had a quick squiz on the internet and couldn find a 90 degree scart lead anywhere. the best I could come up with is a straight one. This would overcome your arial lead problem.
Thanks mike. I think the straight one you refer to may equate to my description of 90 degrees, depending how you view it. Will try RSS components or Maplins; both got a local outlet.
Been searching the electronics dealers' web sites. Plenty of angled scart plugs available (the ones I don't want). Straight plugs always already on leads, and expensive. Can't win!

we have a local tv/radio shop,i wanted a very long one to fit our DVD into the cupboard.he made me a 8 foot long one.he said he can make one as long as you want it.do not know how much.having loads of wires at the rear of the tv can be a pain.if required i will get his address for you.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Thank you all for your help. The link that Delta 1 posted to Universal Distibution was a great help and I have purchased 2 x 35cm flat scart to scart leads. This should solve my problem.
