Hi

Any ideas on a small compact aerial that we can use with our built in freeview tv - or do you think the huge mast ones are best?  Someone recommended the Status 315 but then someone else said they were rubbish - help please.....................

Hi Deb960

Freeview requires a fairly decent signal without the prescence of ghosting. Poor signal conditions will result in failure to find channels and/or pixelation of channels found. A directional aerial (eg Status 530) would be preferrable to a omi directional (eg Status 315) but in all cases siganl will be terrain and location dependant.

Regards

John

Hi, we bought ourselves a fab little Roadstar 10" colour portable with built in freeview and analogue receivers. (it only cost us £59 from a place on ebay that sells graded/returns). At my parents house we got perfect reception on all digital channels with the wire loop aerial supplied but you can see the winter hill mast from there!.

I am no expert but from what I can find out on the net, you need a "wideband log periodic" which is apparently the best all round compromise for reception when touring in different parts of the country - the one I am going to get is called a Vision V10-030  - it is a proper domestic aerial rather than a camping type (although it looks like Vision also make camping ones - see Towsure catalogue), and will need mounting on a pole (we have a set of old tent poles and guys which we currently mount our fish windsock on and will use these) but looks fairly compact and durable - almost as if designed for mobile use. My own view is that as soon as the word 'Camping' is attached to a product it's price doubles - I try and adapt more competitively priced/better quality domestic stuff where possible.

Chris.

Having tried different aerials over a number of years, we now set up our Maxview Omnisat 66cm dish which we use with a Pace DS430n Digibox. It normally takes me a maximum of 10 minutes to get locked on. Even here in Southern Spain I was receiving Sky News,CNN  Men & Motors etc. within a few minutes )although we're now hooked onto a neighbours large dish so we get BBC,ITV etc)

I find it quicker and easier than fiddling with a directional aerial in UK and the Omnidirectional Aerials have been a waste of time for me.

We only get the Sky Free to View Channels as I'm too tight to subscribe, and all the equipment came from Ebay and cost me a total of about £80.00
