Hi All,

I'm due to take my 5 year old camping for a night or two in a couple of weeks time and I was wondering what equipment i need!  the last time i camped was about 10 years or so ago.  I've got a tent, two sleeping bags, a gas powered lamp and small gas powered stove, cool box.  I was wondering what I need to make this short break a success.  I would put myself down as a casual camper - it's unlikely that this will become a way of life so I don't see the need to buy 'the best' equipment' but any advice on must haves and what to avoid would be greatly appreciated,

many many thanks,

G

Having read through the 'Argos' Catalogue (!) here is my list of what I need to take:

tent (already have); double gas burner stove; two air beds; 2 sleeping bags (already have); 12v pump; folding chair (?); water bag; cookset and kettle; battery powered lamp; head-torch and torch; rucksac

plus gas heater; alarm clock

Anything else?

if its not going to become a way of life as long as you got some warm blankets as well as your sleeping bags the stove and kettle i wouldn't bother with plates cutlery etc as you can eat out just take kettle for tea and coffee and may be a chair that would be enough for me oh and some toys for the kid

Watcha need an alarm clock for? You have a 5 year old and the sunshine for that! Take plenty of books, colouring in stuff. Potty will still be handy for a 5 year old if you still have one. Nice warm clothes. Fleeces and joggers are great for daytime and bedtime. Don't forgot little one's favourite teddy/toy. Bubbles, sponge football, glow-sticks are all great for a 5 year old. Even a spacehopper if you have one (and battery/electric pump). I've personally never had to take a gas-heater - depends on when you decide to camp I suppose. If your child likes hot chocolate - the sachets (Aero ones are good) are great for camping. Marmite is also a necessity on our camping trips. Pitta bread with Marmite is always a favourite. Babywipes are always handy.
